  • Bruce Levet has extensive experience in both trial and appellate advocacy across his areas of practice.

    His trial advocacy in the Criminal field includes:-

    • Appearing as Defence Counsel in numerous Jury trials including matters involving charges of murder, kidnapping, fraud, drug importation and sexual offences.
    • Bruce has also been briefed by the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions to conduct prosecutions for the Commonwealth in complex cases.  In 2008 to 2010 he was Counsel for the Crown in R v McIvor and Tanuchit, successfully procuring convictions and lengthy sentences in one of Australia’s first prosecutions for slavery.  
    • He has also been briefed on behalf of the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to conduct numerous prosecutions in state matters.

    In the area of Family Law trials:-

    • Bruce has appeared in numerous cases involving property disputes, (including a number of cases involving high worth individuals), child relocation cases, international child abduction, and general parenting matters.

    In both the Criminal and Family Law jurisdictions, Bruce has a particular interest in cases involving evidence of movement of monies and concealment of financial transactions.

     

    Bruce Levet also has extensive experience in appellate advocacy:- 

    • He has appeared as lead counsel before the High Court of Australia on a number of occasions, including the matter of Appellants 395 and 396 of 2002, in which he led a successful appeal, creating a precedent that has been followed in Australia and overseas.  
    • He has appeared in numerous successful appeals before the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal and the Full Court of the Family Court of Australia.

    He has also appeared as Counsel in a number of Coronial Inquests, including the Inquest in 2008 into the death on active service of Private Jacob Kovco in Iraq.


    In 2019 Bruce was appointed an Adjunct Professor at University of Notre Dame (Australia).


    In 2020, Bruce was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the law in New South Wales.
